What Dodgers pitcher said about Clayton Kershaw after dominant start vs. Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets by a final score of 8-1 on Monday night. Justin Wrobleski turned in an impressive start, as he shut out the Mets for eight innings. The left-hander only struck out two hitters, but he also allowed just two hits and did not walk any batters. The Mets have endured struggles in recent action, but that does not take away from Wrobleski’s strong performance. After the game, Wrobleski revealed Clayton Kershaw’s impact on his success, via Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation.

“The bread and butter for me is the fastball and the slider,” Wrobleski said. “At some point, I want something that’s moving the other way, but at the same time, I think that if I can spot my heater, I think that’s something I can do. And that’s something that Kersh (Kershaw) did forever. I’m not saying that we’re the same guy, but at the same time, you can learn from the greats in that respect… They keep it simple.

“There was nothing overly special, he wasn’t trying to trick anybody. I think that’s something I’ve learned.”

Wrobleski is not trying to be too fancy on the mound. He is throwing the pitches he trusts and trying to place them in quality locations. If batters hit the pitches, then Wrobleski is going to simply move on to the next hitter. He clearly has belief in his approach, and it worked on Monday night against the Mets.

The Mets and Dodgers will play once again on Tuesday night at 10:10 PM EST in Los Angeles.
