What Azzi Fudd said ahead of 2026 WNBA draft
As the 2026 WNBA Draft approaches, Azzi Fudd offered insight into her mindset during a pivotal moment in her career, emphasizing reflection over pressure ahead of Monday night’s event.
The draft is scheduled for April 13 at 7 p.m. ET at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City and will be broadcast on ESPN. Fudd, one of the top prospects in this year’s class, spoke Saturday with Geoff Magliocchetti about the emotions surrounding the experience.
“I wouldn’t say I’m stressed. There’s a lot going on, a lot of emotions to unpack, a lot of newness. All of us are living out our dreams right now, getting to be invited, getting to go through all these things, be together experience this. I think I’m really just trying to focus, not focus, but take everything in.”
Fudd, a former standout for the UConn Huskies, completed her fifth collegiate season in 2025-26 as one of the most efficient scorers in the country. The 23-year-old guard averaged 17.3 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 48.1% from the field, 44.7% from three-point range and 95.5% from the free-throw line across 39 appearances.
Azzi Fudd’s Final Four run, projected No. 3 pick to Storm headline strong WNBA draft outlook
Her production played a key role in leading UConn to the Final Four during the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies’ run ended with a 62-48 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, where Fudd finished with eight points, five assists, one rebound and one steal while shooting 3-for-15 from the field.
Despite the quiet performance in the semifinal, Fudd’s overall body of work has solidified her standing among the top prospects in the class. In Michael Voepel’s latest mock draft, she is projected to be selected No. 3 overall by the Seattle Storm. The projection places Awa Fam at No. 2 to the Minnesota Lynx and Olivia Miles as the No. 1 overall pick to the Dallas Wings.
As draft night nears, Fudd’s approach reflects a balance between anticipation and perspective, choosing to embrace the moment as she prepares to take the next step in her basketball career.
