West Ham vs Wolves predictions
The Premier League returns on Friday night with two of the bottom three facing off in east London.
West Ham can leap out of the relegation zone with victory at home against bottom club Wolves, heaping pressure on rivals Tottenham to respond on Sunday.
The Hammers showed fight, desire and some quality to score two goals in stoppage time to force extra time in their FA Cup quarter final against Leeds on Sunday.
Despite losing on penalties, manager Nuno Espirito Santo has got a tune out his side since the turn of the year, pulling themselves from the abyss to within touching distance of Premier League safety.
The return of Crysencio Summerville to the starting line-up on Sunday could be vital to their survival hopes.
The Dutchman had been the lynchpin to their successes, scoring in four straight games at the turn of the year and the winner in the match against Fulham before his injury.
Since January, West Ham have bagged 15 of their 29 points for the season, a serious up tick in form that can be traced back to the FA Cup third round victory against QPR. That sparked consecutive wins over Tottenham and Sunderland to really kick-start their campaign.
The arrivals of Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos have added a renewed attacking dimension. The departure of Lucas Paqueta has meant a reconfiguring of the midfield which has allowed 21-year-old Mateus Fernandes to shine.
Rob Edwards has also masterminded a real steep upturn in form at Wolves.
Since the turn of the year, Wolves have become a genuine Premier League proposition. Edwards has turned his side into a real banana skin fixture for their opponents. They have tripped up Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa in recent weeks.
Over the last four games, they are fourth in the form table, an extraordinary turn around. Not able to buy a win for much of the campaign.
Wolves did beat West Ham 3-0 at Molineux in January that looked like rock-bottom for Espirito-Santo’s side. They could definitely win again. But West Ham look like a different outfit now and one who could well get themselves out of trouble.
West Ham vs Wolves betting tips
Brash Bowen to bounce back
Jarrod Bowen hit the woodwork twice as West Ham tried, in vein, to turn around their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Leeds.
The England man missed his spot kick in the penalty shoot-out to add to the pain. But while the Hammers have been in turmoil, the captain has stepped up and produced the goods.
He will be hurting from the cup exit, but can channel this into a match-winning performance when it really matters, on Friday night.
Bowen is often involved in all facets of the game, scoring, assisting and doing his defensive work to help the team, that can lead to fouls won…and fouls committed.
If the West Ham skipper is at the sharp end of proceedings then this Sky Bet builder could hold value.
Wolves’ teenage kicks
Mateus Mane has been a breath of fresh air since coming into the Wolves starting lineup.
The 18-year-old Portuguese has had a bright debut campaign in the Premier League. And while only bagging two league goals has shown his dynamic, attacking threat can be a real problem for any opposition defence.
Mane’s no-fear approach could be a feature on Friday night. He’s had 12 shots on target this season, resulting in two goals. He is well suited to a counter-attacking style of play, which may prove to be crucial to Wolves’ fortunes at the London stadium.
