A huge West Midlands derby takes place in the Championship on Saturday lunchtime, as West Brom and Coventry go head to head at the Hawthorns in a match hugely affecting both ends of the table.

West Brom v Coventry prediction

Coventry will head into Saturday’s derby as strong favourites having returned to the top of the Championship table on Monday night with an emphatic 3-1 win over then-league leaders Middlesbrough at the CBS Arena.

Victory for Frank Lampard’s side earlier in the week saw them return to winning ways having picked up just one point from their previous three matches.

The Sky Blues made a barnstorming start to the Championship side and held a 10 point lead at the top of the table in December but have since struggled for form, winning just five of their 13 matches since, but will take great confidence from having returned to the table’s summit on Monday night.

Coventry have particularly struggled away from home in recent weeks though, without a win on the road since December and make the short trip to the Hawthorns having lost each of their last four matches on their travels.

In contrast to Coventry’s campaign, West Brom have been in free fall in recent weeks, and are without a win in the league in 2026, a run spanning eight matches.

The Baggies also started the season strongly and were in the automatic promotion places in mid-September, but have since lost 16 of their 28 league games since, and had occupied a place in the relegation zone prior to earning back to back draws in their last two outings.

Eric Ramsay joined the club as manager from Minnesota last month, but the Welshman is yet to win a match from his seven games in charge so far.

The Baggies have at least managed to go unbeaten in three of their last four Championship games, each ending in draws, but consecutive 0-0 draws in their last two fixtures against Stoke and Birmingham mean his side having scored in their last three in the league.

West Brom have picked up just one point from their last three home games, and can be expected to struggle on Saturday when the league leaders come to town for a local derby. Despite Coventry’s struggles on the road of late, I’m backing a 2-0 away win.

Coventry returned to the top of the Championship table with a 3-1 victory over a Middlesbrough side who started the night in first place, handing the Sky Blues back the place they’d had in the standings since early October.

Haji gets it Wright

Coventry striker Haji Wright returned to scoring ways in emphatic fashion on Monday night with a hat trick against table toppers Middlesbrough to fire the Sky Blues back to the top of the Premier League table.

The hat trick ended a four game goal drought for the USA international, but now means the 27-year-old has scored five goals in his last five league starts, and has 14 for the season in all competitions, the second highest for a Championship player.

Haji Wright to score at 15/8 with Sky Bet

Callum carded

No player on either team has received more yellow cards this season than West Brom’s Callum Styles.

The Hungary international’s caution picked up his most recent outing against Birmingham, in another West Midlands derby, was his eighth of the campaign.
