Wayne Rooney blames children’s TV character for making him get a vasectomy
Wayne Rooney has hilariously blamed his vasectomy on legendary CBeebies figure Mr Tumble.
The Manchester United legend revealed the character played by Justin Fletcher was the reason why he opted for the snip because he couldn’t bear to watch the programme Something Special for the fifth time.

The 40-year-old, who is father to four children with wife Colleen, says he hates the character due to having had to sit through episodes of the popular kids programme on four separate occasions.
Rooney made the personal revelation on the BBC Sport podcast alongside hosts Kae Kurd, Kelly Somers and guest Steve Bracknell.
What did Rooney say about Mr Tumble?
“I hate Mr Tumble,” Rooney said. “ I was in the dressing room for Match of the Day and he was next to me.
“The reason I hate him, well I don’t hate him for what he does, is just that I’ve had to sit through it four times with every kid.
“It’s got to the point now where I just can’t. He’s the reason I’ve got the snip. I couldn’t have another kid to go through it again.”
His comments left the podcast panel in fits of laughter including the production team.
Football content creator Bracknell said: “There’s your headline! Mr Tumble made me have the snip – Rooney”.
The former England international had the procedure done in 2018 following the birth of the couple’s youngest son Cass.
Colleen revealed in 2023 that the pair knew their family was completed after Cass’ arrival, meaning they would not try again in the hope of adding a girl to their family.
“After the birth of every one of my kids the press is always interested if I’m going to have another baby and it’s always, ‘would you like a girl?’,” Coleen said.

“I always thought I’d have a few kids, maybe three at the most, but then number four came along and we knew our family was complete then.
“Me and Wayne talking about him having a vasectomy. He said after this baby that’s it, we’re not having anymore, and Wayne went in and got the snip so I knew for sure we wouldn’t have anymore children.
“I’d heard about this procedure where you could choose the gender of your children but it’s something I’d never considered doing.”
The couple who met when they were 12 years old, share boys Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.
They began dating when they were 16 and were married in 2008 while Wayne was at the peak of his powers with Manchester United.
Following his dad’s footsteps
Their eldest son Kai has followed his dad into football and plays for Manchester United’s academy team.

The 15-year-old has featured for the Red Devils since 2020 and has left a good impression on United’s academy coaches.
“He just plays, that’s what he’s always done,” Rooney said of his son’s blossoming career. “It’s unfair to expect too much – he’s only 15. But he handles the pressure of his surname very well.”
