Travis Bazzana’s first MLB hit comes in an extremely clutch manner

The Cleveland Guardians handed Travis Bazzana his first huge call up on Monday. The No. 1 pick from the 2024 MLB Draft pounded his long-awaited first big league hit Saturday against the Athletics. But that blast came in an extremely clutch manner.

And fueling the hope among Guardian fans that they’ll see more of these clutch moments from Bazzana.

Bazzana faced a full count with the bases loaded during the seventh inning. He encountered nothing but four-seam fast balls at each at-bat attempt. But he took the eighth pitch from Hogan Harris, ripping the single toward center field.

Bazzana drove in Chase DeLauter and Rhys Hoskins in the process, plus expanded Cleveland’s lead to 9-5.

Bazzana’s family went wild too as the camera briefly shifted focus on them. But that wasn’t the only MLB accolade he hit.

The Sydney, Australia native caught the A’s off guard by stealing second base, showing the wheels that made him a coveted draft prospect.

The 23-year-old Bazzana entered the MLB hearing hefty hype. He blasted 45 home runs, scored 84 runs and chipped 87 hits in his college career at Oregon State. He landed with Columbus, Akron and Lake County in the minor league realm to get his feet wet there.

But he tasted early struggles following his big leagues call. Bazzana went an unprecedented 0-for-12 at the bat before Saturday’s blast. Now he pounded a much relieving first hit on the biggest baseball stage.

The Guardians took advantage of Bazzana’s hit from there, rolling to the 14-6 win by tacking on five more runs after the RBI.
