Tottenham’s ‘only hope’ stretchered off in sickening double injury blow amid relegation battle
Xavi Simons was stretchered off against Wolves in a moment that could be a massive blow to Tottenham Hotspur.
With the score 0-0 in the second half at Molineux, the Dutchman went down after a challenge with Hugo Bueno and was in visible pain.
Simons remained on the turf when receiving treatment, with medical staff calling for a stretcher.
He was wheeled off the pitch and replaced by Lucas Bergvall as Spurs chased a crucial opener.
The north Londoners are still embroiled in a fight against what would be a seismic relegation from the Premier League.
On Inside Spurs for talkSPORT earlier in the week, Spurs broadcaster Ricky Sacks claimed the only way they can get out of their situation is with Simons.
However, he could now spend the rest of the season on the sidelines.
Dominic Solanke also picked up an injury earlier in the match, and left the pitch with only 40 minutes played.
Spurs finally had something to cheer about in the 82nd minute as Joao Palhinha poked in from close range to put them ahead.
It’s a goal that sent them out of the bottom three on goal difference.
However, West Ham scored via Callum Wilson in the second minute of stoppage time to lead Everton and keep them out the drop zone.
