Tottenham consider suprise move for Chelsea outcast if Kevin Danso joins another Premier League club

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo, talkSPORT understands.

The centre-back has been identified as a potential replacement for Kevin Danso.

Sunderland have held talks with Spurs over a deal for the Austria international.

Their interest came after manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed Danso had requested to leave the club in a shock admission.

talkSPORT revealed on Saturday that the player has already agreed personal terms with the Black Cats.

Danso was an unused substitute for Spurs’ season-opening defeat to Brentford before being left out of the squad against Newcastle United on Saturday.

He had previously scored during a 25-minute cameo off the bench against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup last week.

Tosin in demand

Tosin could now be heading to north London as his successor before Tuesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

However, they face competition to land the 28-year-old from both England and overseas.

Benfica have expressed an interest in signing Tosin after missing out on Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The one-cap Three Lions star is set to seal a move to Aston Villa.

Tosin has been discussed by the Portuguese giants as well as Premier League sides including Villa.

He was also offered to Manchester United last week as the Blues tried to find a potential suitor.

Xabi Alonso has yet to include Tosin in a matchday squad so far this season.

The former Fulham man has entered the final two years of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Since joining Chelsea in 2024, Tosin has made 70 appearances as well as winning both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

Spurs’ defensive options

Danso’s Spurs exit would leave De Zerbi with five recognised senior centre-backs.

It comes after Cristian Romero left the club for Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

Tottenham have also signed both Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi already this summer.

They have joined new captain Micky van de Ven, Kota Takai and Ben Davies at the club.

Despite their options in the position, Spurs’ woeful start to the new season has seen them concede five goals in just two matches.

The back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Newcastle leave them bottom of the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
