Wrexham attempt to sign Championship star from rival in manic end to transfer window

Wrexham have made a £6.5million bid Sheffield United attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare, talkSPORT understands.

Talks are ongoing with the Blades ahead of a busy final 24 hours of the transfer window for the Welsh outfit.

Business looming

With O’Hare potentially set to join a Championship rival of the Blades, he could be one of four arrivals at the Racecourse Ground ahead of Deadline Day.

Joe Worrall is formalising his £2m move from Burnley, as talkSPORT exclusively revealed on Sunday.

Wrexham are also looking to strengthen their forward line, having seen approaches turned down for Ipswich striker Anis Mehmeti and Millwall‘s Femi Azeez.

However, both players are understood to be holding out for different moves.

talkSPORT can exclusively reveal Brighton have had a £10m bid rejected for Azeez, who fired in 11 league goals last term.

As well as Wrexham, Mehmeti is reportedly attracting interest from Birmingham City and Derby.

The Red Dragons could also be set for some departures before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline, with ex-Wolves captain Conor Coady recently having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Meanwhile, Birmingham are showing interest in Wrexham midfielder Josh Windass.

However, it is unclear whether talks will progress between now and the end of the window, with last season’s top scorer revealing to talkSPORT his plans to stay in North Wales earlier this summer.

Callum O’Hare’s career

With Wrexham set for a busy end to the summer transfer window, O’Hare would certainly be the standout arrival if they are able to secure his signature.

The Aston Villa academy graduate boasts a wealth of Championship experience, having spent the last five years in the second tier – first with Coventry City and now Sheffield United.

He has made 225 league appearances for the two clubs, scoring 25 goals and assisting 37 times.

O’Hare joined Sheffield United in 2024, and has since established himself as a key player for them.

During his time at Bramall Lane he has featured 98 times altogether, chipping in with 14 goals and 14 assists.

The 28-year-old has started all three of Sheffield United’s Championship games this season.

He got on the scoresheet in their last match – a 2-2 draw with Cardiff, which saw the Blades take a point from their third straight game.

Meanwhile, Wrexham’s late push to sign O’Hare comes as they look to strengthen following a disappointing start to the season.

After missing out on the Championship play-off places on the final day of last season, the Welsh outfit are looking to go one further and continue their remarkable rise up the English football pyramid.

However, Parkinson’s side are currently winless after their first three league games, drawing twice before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham in their last outing.

Wrexham currently sit 20th on two points, but have 43 games left of the season to transform their fortunes.
