Keys to Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Matchup

The Denver Nuggets closed the regular season as arguably the NBA’s hottest team behind just San Antonio and Oklahoma City with their 12-game winning streak. Sitting at fifth in the standings prior to their run, they draw a favorable matchup against the Timberwolves who they’ve been able to handle this season at 3-1. All three of Denver’s wins over Minnesota came before 2026, however, as the Timberwolves own the most recent meeting.

Nikola Jokic is looking to cap another MVP-caliber season with a championship playoff run, eager to see the Timberwolves in the first round as he’s averaging 35.3 PPG against them this season. He’s also averaging a whopping 14.5 RPG and 11.9 APG over his last 10 starts, so expect him to flirt with another triple-double effort to open his 2026 NBA Playoffs. Jamal Murray is statistically having one of the best campaigns of his career, so expect him to have a huge role in their success throughout this series.

The Timberwolves, on the other hand, have been in this spot the previous two seasons and seem to put things together in time for the playoffs. Rudy Gobert will offer stern resistance rebounding the ball against the Denver bigs, but much of their success will hinge on the offensive production from Julius Randle. The Timberwolves have gone 19-6 in games where Anthony Edwards scores 30 or more points, so expect him to try and get going early to give his team a boost in the first half.

Aside from previous meetings, the Nuggets have been one of the more consistent home teams in the NBA season and the Denver home crowd will be electric to open their playoff run. Both teams have scored upwards of 110 points in wins against one another this season, so expect a strong offensive outing from the winning team this time around.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Prediction and Pick

The Denver Nuggets have led this season series in dominant fashion and they have a tumultuous Playoffs rivalry against this Timberwolves team with Minnesota sweeping the Nuggets two years ago. Nikola Jokic has grown to love this matchup and he’ll be the best player on the floor for either team. While Anthony Edwards is capable of single-handedly lifting his team down the stretch, he’ll need players like Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to come up big with their own scoring efforts if they want this game to be competitive.

I expect the Timberwolves to be the much more aggressive team from deep as they’re attempting a reasonable 37 shots per game. However, if Jamal Murray is able to continue his efficient shooting from deep as he has the last stretch of the season, he should be the equalizing factor for the Nuggets having the edge in this game.

For our final prediction, we’ll roll with the Denver Nuggets to win this home tilt and cover the spread while doing so. They’ve had Minnesota’s number all season and they should take a high-scoring Game 1 at home.

Final Timberwolves-Nuggets Game 1 Prediction & Pick: Denver Nuggets -6.5 (-115); OVER 231.5 (-110)
