Tigers getting pitcher back from IL comes with unfortunate Gleyber Torres injury update
The Detroit Tigers have been decimated by injuries so far this season, not the least of which was ace starter Tarik Skubal. The Tigers won only six games in the month of May during his absence, highlighting his importance to the club.
Meanwhile, the Tigers managed to put together a modest winning streak to begin June, but they’re still not out of the woods yet. The good news is that they’re getting RHP Casey Mize back from the 15-day injured list, but the bad news is that they’re placing infielder Gleyber Torres on the 10-day injured list retroactive to June 16 because of a left oblique strain.
“The Tigers today activated RHP Casey Mize off the 15-day injured list and placed INF Gleyber Torres on the 10-day injured list (retro to June 16) with a left oblique strain,” the Detroit Tigers PR account wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The news was announced by the Tigers before their series finale against the Houston Astros. Unfortunately for Torres, he’s already missed time this season because of a left oblique strain, which is in the same general area of his previous injury.
“It’s a new injury in the same region of his previous injury,” manager A.J. Hinch said before Wednesday’s game via The Detroit Free Press. “Obviously, it’s all related in there. It’s frustrating for him and for us that the area continues to be an issue for him, so he’ll be down.”
So far this season, Torres has appeared in 43 games and is hitting .280 with four home runs and 18 RBI.
