Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander addresses foul that nearly injured Austin Reaves
Tempers got a little hot in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals, as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers collided in the Paycom Center on Thursday evening. Former teammates LeBron James and Alex Caruso exchanged some words in between free throws and Austin Reaves blew up on an official, perfectly illustrating the sense of urgency that filled the air in this NBA playoffs matchup. Things could have really boiled over, though.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got tangled up with Reaves, who was guarding the OKC superstar from behind early in the second half, and then he brought the Lakers guard down to the ground while trying to break loose. Reaves grabbed his arm in pain but ultimately avoided serious injury. Gilgeous -Alexander was charged with a flagrant 1 foul, much to the dismay of the legions of Thunder fans who believed the opposing player initiated the contact.
Many people are demanding an explanation following the official’s ruling, which resulted in the 2025 Finals MVP picking up his fourth foul during what was a two-point LA lead at the time. Gilgeous-Alexander was not as curious, however.
“I didn’t get an explanation, but I also didn’t ask,” he told reporters following Oklahoma City’s 125-107 victory, per the Oh No He Didn’t X account. “I’m not going to be able to change the call. I didn’t mean to hurt (Austin). I didn’t want to use it as a distraction.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will receive plenty of boos when he steps foot inside Crypto.com Arena, but he knows how to handle boisterous crowds. The presumptive regular season MVP has only scored 40 combined points through the first two contests, and yet, the Thunder currently hold a 2-0 series lead.
