Thunder’s dominant 30-point win streak only done 1 other time in NBA history
The Oklahoma City Thunder might be in playoff mode now, and they’re showing it with their dominance on the court over the last three games. Their 123-87 win over the Los Angeles Lakers made their third straight win where they defeated their opponent by 30-plus points. That has only been done one other time in NBA history, and it was the 1971-72 Phoenix Suns.
The Thunder defeated the Lakers by 43 points, the Utah Jazz by 35, and the Lakers again by 36. Though their opponents haven’t been at full strength, the Thunder are taking care of business, and it’s safe to say they’re not playing with their food.
The Thunder are trying to defend their championship from last season, and for head coach Mark Daigneault, things have been different this year as they head into the postseason.
“It’s late in the year, and there [are] varying levels of stuff you can get out of this time of year, but I think the combination of some of the opponents we’ve played, and our team being whole for the first time all season has given us a great sense of purpose, which is good,” Daigneault said via Josue Pavon of Clutch Points. “It keeps us sharp.
“Last season, at this time, we still were trying to improve, but we were so far ahead in the standings that we were really having to generate our own sense of purpose. Right now, we’re not having to do that. We know that we need to get a rhythm, and we need to improve together. And that all these opponents we’re playing against are playing for something.”
Not only are the teams they’re facing fighting for something, but the Thunder are also trying to keep the No. 1 seed away from the San Antonio Spurs, who have been neck and neck with them for most of the season.
