Thunder’s Chet Holmgren isn’t giving away any secrets for containing Victor Wembanyama
Chet Holmgren kept his mouth shut when it comes to the defensive approach that he and the Oklahoma City Thunder have towards San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama in the Western Conference Finals.
Holmgren is going through the fourth year of his young NBA career, progressing in his third postseason. He hopes to help the Thunder defend their place at the throne after winning the championship last year. They hope to be the first team to repeat since the Golden State Warriors pulled that off in 2017 and 2018.
Holmgren assisted the Thunder to get to the West Finals so far this playoffs, sweeping the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers. They are now in an intriguing series against the Spurs, were Holmgren himself has to constantly deal with Wembanyama.
The Oklahoma City center had trouble at first, seeing Wembanyama have a historic display in Game 1 at his expense. Since then, the Thunder have taken control by winning Games 2 and 3, seeing better form from Holmgren.
Holmgren spoke with media ahead of Game 4 on Saturday, per reporter Clemente Almanza. When it comes explaining how Oklahoma City has kept Wembanyama, the star center chose not to spoil the real defensive tactic that has given them some success in the last two games.
“Yeah sorry. No gameplan stuff,” Holmgren said.

What lies ahead for Chet Holmgren, Thunder
Chet Holmgren and the Thunder are two wins away from getting back to the NBA Finals. If they can keep Victor Wembanyama off his best game, then they are well on their way to returning to the championship stage.
Holmgren has been more than effective this postseason, averaging 16.7 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game throughout 11 contests. He has solid shooting splits of 58% from the field, including 38.5% from beyond the arc, and 86.1% from the free-throw line.
The Spurs hope to go up 3-1 in the series when they face the Thunder on the road in Game 4. The contest takes place on May 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
