Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s eye-opening takeaway from Game 4 beatdown
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder fell flat on their faces on Sunday night, being on the receiving end of a 103-82 beatdown from the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the 2026 Western Conference Finals — evening up the series at 2-2. The Spurs were never going to just let the Thunder waltz into taking a 3-1 lead, and this time around, OKC could not overcome a slow start the way they did in Game 3.
The Thunder offense was absolutely abysmal in Game 4, clearly feeling the effects of Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell’s absence. Their bench was bound to slow down at some point, and when the bench stopped scoring, OKC could not keep up. They even lost the turnover battle (17-12) and allowed the Spurs to score 28 off their giveaways — getting beaten in their own game.
But this Thunder team is never going to panic. If there’s a superstar who’s the epitome of calm, it’s the two-time reigning MVP. He is urging his team to just learn whatever they can from this defeat, as much of a stinger this most recent defeat of theirs was.
“Whether you win or lose, you want to learn the lessons from the game. When you lose, the lessons are a little bit louder,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, per FanDuel Sports Network’s Nick Gallo.
Gilgeous-Alexander and this Thunder team are no strangers to adversity. But even OKC may have to admit that there are real concerns that they have to address rather urgently in the aftermath of their Game 4 blowout loss.
The Spurs are continuing to dare the non-Gilgeous-Alexander Thunder players to beat them, and they couldn’t at all in Game 4. The bench that came up huge in the first three games of the series could not buy a bucket, with Jared McCain, Alex Caruso, and Jaylin Williams, the trio that combined for 57 points in Game 3, combining for just seven points on 2-18 shooting on Sunday.
They know that their role players have to hit enough shots as they weather injury problems in their title defense.
