Thomas Tuchel made complaint about Panama tactic to official moments before Harry Kane goal record

The timing for Harry Kane’s record-breaking England goal was perfect in helping to calm down Thomas Tuchel.

Kane became the Three Lions‘ all-time World Cup top goalscorer against Panama moments after Tuchel was left furious.

The England boss was spotted by talkSPORT’s England correspondent, Faye Carruthers, raging at the officials in New Jersey.

He was visibly frustrated on the touchline, as he complained about how long Panama were taking to take free-kicks.

The manager wanted his side to keep up their momentum and find another goal to seal the win in the Group L game.

Thankfully, moments after his angry rant, England were able to get that all-important second goal.

And it came through captain Kane, who headed home his third goal of the 2026 World Cup so far after 67 minutes.

How many World Cup goals has Kane scored?

Kane’s goal was a special one, as it took his overall career tally at the tournament up to 11 across 2018, 2022 and now 2026.

That saw him overtake Gary Lineker, who scored 10, to become England’s all-time top scorer in the competition.

It was actually his 70th goal of the season for both club and country this season, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo – the highest goal scorer of all time – whose record was 69 goals for Real Madrid and Portugal.

And soon after that, Tuchel’s night got even better after his angry moment with the officials.

He substituted Jordan Henderson on for Elliot Anderson for the final stages, allowing the midfielder to make history, too.

In coming on and taking the armband from Henderson, he becomes the first male England player to feature at four World Cups and play at seven major tournaments.

Who do England play next?

In topping the group with the 2-0 win over Panama, it means England’s opponents in the Round of 32 is likely to be DR Congo.

It was a win for England, though it might not please all fans, with Marcus Rashford and Jude Bellingham the only 7/10 performers against Panama.

As for Anderson, the most expensive British player, ‘he needs to wear that title better’.
