TGL: New York Golf Club defeats Jupiter Links 8-3 in Tiger Woods’ season debut

Tiger Woods was on hand at the SoFi Center for Tuesday’s TGL match between his Jupiter Links and the New York Golf Club. That was not enough juice for the Jupiter squad though as New York defeated them rather easily, 8-3.

Woods is still in the process of returning to golf, but having him at the match in general was a ton of fun. Any time that you can see Tiger Woods is a good thing.

Jupiter fielded Max Homa and Kevin Kisner to no surprise, but in need of an alternate they called upon Akshay Bhatia. They took on the New York squad of Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young, and here is how the action unfolded.

TRIPLES

  • Hole 1 (Hatchet): Jupiter put themselves in solid enough position and threw a Hammer that New York declined, 1-0 Jupiter
  • Hole 2 (The Spear): This was just a standard win of a hole with no Hammer necessary, 2-0 Jupiter
  • Hole 3 (On The Rocks): Cameron Young had an incredible tee shot that let New York cruise, 2-1 Jupiter
  • Hole 4 (The Jup Life): Jupiter was able to benefit from a New York penalty on their home hole, 3-1 Jupiter
  • Hole 5 (Fallen Pine): The action kept rolling with penalties and this time it was New York who was fortunate, 3-2 Jupiter
  • Hole 6 (Bluebonnet): There were still no ties to this point as Max Homa couldn’t force one and New York won another hole, 3-3
  • Hole 7 (Craic On): Our first tie of the evening!
  • Hole 8 (Stinger): This time it was New York who had the upper hand and threw a Hammer to close the door, 4-3 New York
  • Hole 9 (Big Apple): Same exact situation here, 5-3 New York

Here is how the individuals lined up for each singles match (Jupiter, New York).

  • Akshay Bhatia and Rickie Fowler (Holes 10 and 13)
  • Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick (Holes 11 and 14)
  • Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young (Holes 12 and 15)

SINGLES

  • Hole 10 (Boomerang): Tie
  • Hole 11 (Loot On The Line): Matt Fitzpatrick picked up the first single point of the night, 6-3 New York
  • Hole 12 (Set In Stone): Tie
  • Hole 13 (Straight Up): Rickie Fowler came through this time for a win and what it made it particularly sweet was Jupiter threw a Hammer to start, 8-3 New York
  • Hole 14 (Cenote): Another Hammer from Jupiter, but a tie nonetheless
  • Hole 15 (Sterling): One final tie as New York won 8-3

This was a particularly festive TGL match beyond the inclusion of Tiger Woods as the PGA Tour is returning this week with the Sony Open.

TGL has been a huge success and weeks like this are a huge reason why. Fans are treated to midweek golf just a couple of days before PGA Tour play begins. It is a special time to love golf.
