Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani continues surge up franchise rankings in win over Mets

Shohei Ohtani is such a unique talent. It’s been said multiple times, but it’s also hard to overstate just how unique the Los Angeles Dodgers star is. A player who’s a nightly threat on the plate while being just as fearsome on the mound literally cannot be seen anywhere else in the league.

As if to prove his dominance to us, Ohtani currently owns two insane streaks in the MLB. After his latest start, the Dodgers pitcher has now pitched 28 2/3 innings without an earned run to his name. In addition, Ohtani continued his on-base streak when he was in the batter’s box as well, reaching base in his last 47 games. That’s also the longest active streak in the league.

After reaching a base against the Mets, Ohtani continued to climb the Dodgers leaderboard. The Japanese sensation tied Ron Cey’s on-base streak from 1975 to 1976. Ohtani now has the fourth-longest on-base streak, behind Willie Keeler (1999-2001), Shawn Green (2000), and Duke Snider (1954), who holds the longest on-base streak in Dodger history with 58.

Ohtani’s pitching streak started towards the end of the 2025 regular season. Throughout the 2026 season, Ohtani has not allowed a run in the twelve innings he’s pitched. Ohtani will have a chance to extend his streak against the New York Mets today in his third start of the season.

On the other side of the ball, Ohtani has been excellent at putting the ball in play. Against the Mets, though, the Dodgers star almost saw his streak end. Ohtani was hit by a pitch in the first inning of the game, drawing an automatic walk in the process. After that, Ohtani was unable to generate any offense, striking out once and failing to register a hit or even another walk.

The Dodgers were able to get by thanks to Justin Wrobleski’s excellent pitching. The young pitcher threw eight scoreless innings to power Los Angeles to a win. The Dodgers improved to 12-4 on the season, leading their division rather comfortably.
