Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson winner offered stadium fight against new British world champion

Dalton Smith has his eyes on the winner of Teofimo Lopez’s hotly anticipated clash with Shakur Stevenson.

Lopez and Stevenson are set to meet in an enthralling clash for the former’s WBO super-lightweight world title on January 31 in New York.

Stevenson and Lopez will meet in an illustrious all-American clash

Hugely talented star Stevenson is stepping up to try and become champion in a fourth weight class, and to preserve his undefeated record in arguably his biggest fight yet.

The winner of the huge showdown is set to become the talk of the boxing world particularly on US soil, particularly given the size of the event.

And, British fighter Dalton Smith recently became the talk of the town after beating Subriel Matias to snatch the WBC title at 140lbs.

In an interview with talkSPORT, the Sheffield hero wants to attend Lopez vs Stevenson and believes he has earned a shot at the victor.

He told White&Jordan when asked about fighting the winner: “Exactly that [is what can happen]

“I believe I have earned my position to go and get those fights. And yeah I’d love to get a big fight like that at Hillsborough.

“I think it is a 50/50 fight and I’d back Stevenson on points. I’m a world champion.

“I’m eligible to go in with any of these other world champions. Possibly yeah [I’ll be there.]”

Smith has the world at his feet now, and is set for some big fights in 2026.

The lure of an all-British showdown with Adam Azim also remains, but the pair are currently on totally different trajectories.

Stevenson vs Lopez – who would fight Smith?

Naturally, if either superstar is to come to British shores, it would be a huge clash.

Stevenson in particular has already shown interest in fighting in the UK in the future.

Previously he suggested he would be most open to fight welterweight star Conor Benn.

As for Lopez, he will likely take on all comers if he is to try and become the dominant force at 140lbs.

But that would need to see him move up in weight again immediately, as opposed to any pursuit of further titles at 140lbs.

Helping Smith’s case could well be that his promoter Eddie Hearn is set to stage the clash between Lopez and Stevenson.

Richardson Hitchins and Gary Russell are both likely to throw their names in the mix to compete with the victor.
