Tempo’s Brittney Sykes gets brutal injury update after Fever matchup

With Toronto Tempo star Brittney Sykes suffering an injury in the 113-91 loss to the Indiana Fever last Tuesday, the latest update reveals the official issue with a rough timetable. As Sykes is a crucial part of the Tempo’s roster, the team will have to deal with her absence for the foreseeable future.

Sykes left in the third quarter of Toronto’s loss to the Fever after it was revealed that she sustained a “plantar fascia injury” and will be reevaluated “in the coming weeks.” The good news is that Sykes is expected to make a full return at some point this season.

“NEWS: Brittney Sykes suffered a plantar fascia injury on June 16 against the Indiana Fever. She will be reevaluated in the “coming weeks” and is expected to make a full recovery & return in 2026, per the Toronto Tempo,” Costabile wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

There’s no denying Sykes’ impact this season as she has averaged 20.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.

Tempo’s Sandy Brondello on Brittney Sykes’ injury

When Sykes went down in the aforementioned loss to Indiana, she was the focal point of the Tempo’s offense, as head coach Sandy Brondello put it into perspective, via ESPN.

“Obviously, she’s been playing so good for us and doing so much for us at both ends of the floor,” Brondello said. “So when you lose one of your best players, it’s tough. We couldn’t find ways that we could fill Slim’s shoes; that’s going to be really hard.”

When she went down in the third quarter, there was a sense that it could be a significant injury, especially from the reaction of Marina Mabrey, who shook her head after comforting Sykes and “pounded her fist on the floor as teammates gathered around her,” per ESPN.

“You saw my face when Slim went down, that kind of says it all,” Mabrey said.

At any rate, it remains to be seen how Sykes progresses through the injury and when she’ll return for the Tempo.
