Team GB create more Winter Olympic history as another gold medal is scooped in Super Sunday
Matt Weston and Tabby Stoecker claimed a third Team GB gold in the 2026 Winter Olympics to cap off a historic Super Sunday.
The duo beat off all the competition to claim gold in the inaugural mixed skeleton event.

Weston had already won gold as an individual in the men’s skeleton on Friday night.
And he was back on form again to make it a day that fans won’t forget – becoming Team GB’s most successful male Winter athlete in the process.
Following a historic gold for Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale in the mixed snowboarding earlier on Sunday, this was another incredible moment.
Never before had Team GB won two gold medals in a single Winter Olympics before the Milano Cortina Games.
While it was joy for Weston and Stoecker, it was heartbreak for fellow Team GB stars Freya Tarbit and Marcus Wyatt.
They ended up finishing in fourth spot, with their compatriots knocking them out of medal contention by taking gold.
Stoecker and Weston went last after two German pairs, with Susanne Kehrer and Axel Jungk holding the gold medal spot.
It was Stoecker who went first, with her run 0.30 seconds off the gold medal, leaving Weston with work to do.
And he delivered in epic fashion, as his run beat Kehrer and Jungk’s time by 0.17 seconds, with the combined winning time of 1:59.36 being a new track record.
Weston has now become the first Brit to win two Winter Olympic golds in the same Games.

A delighted Weston said after the race: “Luckily, I felt like I knew what I needed to do.
“I took a load of confidence from the individual event and I almost had to ‘be boring’ to get the job done and do it again.”
As for an emotional Stoecker, she remarked: “Thanks [Matt]. I can’t believe it.
“It’s a team effort and when Matt came down and we were in the green, I was just in shock.”
Historic
Team GB now have three gold medals for the Winter Olympics, which is their greatest-ever haul.
No Team GB side in history have ever done better than this, and there are still plenty of events left for more success.
Weston had become the first British man to win the skeleton, with all of Team GB’s previous gold medals in the competition being claimed by females [one by Amy Williams and two by Lizzy Yarnold].
And earlier in the day, the mixed snowboarding team put their individual disappointment behind them to seal the mixed title, and it turns out a few drinks with family was the inspiration.
Bankes said: “We went for a couple of beers.
“It was a regrouping of our families and the team together, just to feel that home support. That really helped us to regroup.
“We wanted to use the family that were there, because they know what we’ve gone through and all the work that’s gone through.
“It was important to regroup and then we just went riding yesterday and had fun.

“This is unbelievable.”
Meanwhile, Nightingale was in tears, as she stated: “The feeling is immense.
“We push each other well and for me, I know that Charlotte Bankes is behind me, and she’s such an incredible rider that it kind of loosens me up. We just had a good one today.
“The first round was a bit stressful. I got punched in the face just in turn one, and I kind of got a bit dazed.
“I knew it would be tough after that, but she did an amazing job. I’m just grateful for her.”
As far as days in the Winter Olympics go, there aren’t too many better for Team GB.
