talkSPORT tips – Best football bets and expert advice on Sunday 8 February

Sunday delivers the highlight of the football weekend when Premier League elite Liverpool and Manchester City meet at Anfield.

There is also the small matter of Brighton’s clash with rival Crystal Palace on the south coast, along with action from the Scottish Cup and across several of Europe’s top leagues.

Bet of the Day – Liverpool to beat Manchester City @ 13/10

Liverpool meet Manchester City at Anfield in a huge Premier League contest, a contest which could play into the hands of leaders Arsenal if the Reds come out on top.

Arne Slot’s side put in arguably their best performance of the season when crushing Newcastle 4-1 on Merseyside last weekend, that triumph coming three days after they thumped Qarabag 6-0.

Liverpool had 55 shots across those two victories and that impressive attacking output suggests they can cause problems for a City defence without a clean sheet in their last three away assignments.

Pep Guardiola’s side were good against Newcastle in the League Cup in midweek, running out 5-1 winners on aggregate to reach the final, but they are not as fresh as the Reds as a result and this could tell in Sunday’s meeting.

City have failed to win their last three away games, losing to Manchester United and Bodo/Glimt before giving up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Citizens are not as feared as they have been in previous seasons and they could suffer a damaging defeat at Anfield, a stadium they haven’t won at since 2021.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace – Bet Builder: Palace to win, over 2.5 goals & both teams to score @ 21/4

Out-going Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has made no secret of his disappointment in the club’s transfer policy, but the Eagles were busy in January and it will be interesting to see if the Austrian can now get the south Londoners back on track.

A trip to the Amex Stadium to face rivals Brighton would be a good place for Palace to start and the visitors may just have enough to come away with all three points.

Jorgen Strand Larsen, Brennan Johnson and Evann Guessand should add some much-needed attacking output for the Eagles, and for all that Palace haven’t reached the heights of last season, this is still a team which has beaten Liverpool twice, grabbed points against Chelsea and Aston Villa and taken Arsenal to penalties in the League Cup.

Brighton have lost the winning feeling, going four games without victory in the league, but they are a side who like to play on the front foot and that makes for entertaining clashes.

The Seagulls have seen both sides find the net in seven of their last eight games and there is unlikely to be any sitting back in the fierce atmosphere of a derby, with the net rippling at both ends.

Round off this bet builder with over 2.5 goals, a bet which has landed in three of the last four meetings between these two.

Accumulator – Juventus to beat Parma, Athletic Bilbao to beat Levante & Valencia to beat Real Madrid treble @ 29/2

Juventus have lost only three of their last 22 matches and they hammered Parma 4-1 in their most recent Serie A contest.

Sunday’s visitors Lazio have won only three of their 11 away league matches this term and they are likely to come up empty handed in Turin, which they have done in seven of their last eight visits.

Athletic Bilbao have been hit hard by injuries this season, but they continue to grind out results and they were good when winning 2-1 at Valencia in the Copa del Rey last time out.

Opponents Levante have struggled away from home recently, winning just one of their last four fixtures and losing to Segunda outfit Cultural Leonesa during this period.

Levante are without a win on their last five trips to the San Mames, losing four and drawing one, and more away disappointment looks to be on the cards.

Real Madrid needed a last-gasp Kylian Mbappe penalty to beat nine-man Rayo Vallecano 2-1 last time out and that followed a 4-2 Champions League loss at Benfica.

All is not well in Madrid and Valencia, who have won three of their last five fixtures, could cause an upset with the backing of the Mestalla crowd.
