Aaron Rodgers roadblocks Steelers’ plans with another delay and team told to ‘cut the cord’ on $395m star

Steelers general manager Omar Khan revealed on Friday morning that he doesn’t know where Aaron Rodgers is.

Now, speculation is brewing that the future Hall of Fame quarterback may not show at all this weekend as rookie minicamp has gotten underway for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The general consensus around the NFL had been that Rodgers would return to the Steelers for the 2026 season.

According to a report from NFL Media, the 42-year-old veteran was expected to visit the Steelers on Friday and through the weekend, with the expectation that he would re-sign with the team for another year.

In 16 games in 2025, Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns to seven interceptions, in which he completed 65.7 percent of his passes.

But according to Mark Kaboly, Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show, there is no meeting expected.

“From everything I can gather, there is no meeting scheduled or expected between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers,” Kaboly wrote on Friday.

“I’ve reached out to a couple inside the building and nobody has seen him yet. Today is the first day of rookie minicamp. Media will be there on Saturday. Stay tuned.

“Maybe Rodgers will show later, maybe tomorrow or maybe he won’t. He isn’t under contract and we haven’t heard a word from him since going on @PatMcAfeeShow.”

Rodgers’ last appearance on the show was March 4, and since then, has pretty much disappeared off the grid.

Steelers preparing for all outcomes

“Dear Aaron Rodgers, You’re not as important as these over the top minute by minute updates indicate. …Time to cut the cord Omar,” one fan tweeted.

Previous reports suggested that Rodgers would inform the Steelers brass of his plans ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, but nothing ever materialized.

The Steelers wound up selecting Penn State signal caller Drew Allar in the third round, who will now don the uniform of his childhood team Cleveland Browns‘ AFC North division rivals.

The 22-year-old joins Will Howard – endorsed by ex-Steelers star Charlie Batch – and veteran Mason Rudolph in a relatively inexperienced QB room, with the latter having made just 19 starts in six seasons.

Having a four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion player like Rodgers return to the fray would instantly boost the Black and Yellow’s chances of repeating as AFC North champions after their 10-7 record in 2025.

Rodgers’ – who has made over $395 million in career earnings – presence in the locker room alone would also provide invaluable experience for the young quarterbacks on the roster who have yet to take to the gridiron for their NFL debuts.

With the Steelers having put an unprecedented tender on Rodgers that gives them a rare right-of-first-refusal should he not sign by July 22, they appear to hold the advantage over the likes of the Arizona Cardinals, who have also expressed their interest.

There’s still, of course, a chance that Rodgers could do a shocking u-turn and declare his retirement from the NFL as the Hall of Fame beckons.

While that decision would put the Steelers at a huge disadvantage for the 2026 campaign, it would put them in a favorable position to tank for up-and-coming prospect Arch Manning.

But, first, someone has to find out where Rodgers is at – and if he wants to play football this season.
