talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice for LIV Golf Adelaide

The LIV Tour heads to Adelaide, Australia, this week and expectations of a home win will have increased after Elvis Smylie tasted victory at the opening get-together in Riyadh last week.

Smylie saw off favourite Jon Rahm by a shot as the former Masters champion played his first tournament since October’s Spanish Open, and he is predictably favourite to win this week.

Meanwhile, Joaquin Niemann will be looking to make an impression at The Grange, where he won by three shots last year, after a disappointing 22nd in Saudi Arabia.

LIV Golf Adelaide Tips

  • Jon Rahm to win @ 4/1
  • Abraham Ancer (each-way) @ 25/1
  • Lucas Herbert (each-way) @ 25/1

Rahm looks a class above

Rahm’s followers have had their fingers burned plenty of times when backing the Spaniard to come out on top in LIV tournaments, but his consistency will surely soon be rewarded.

While you have to go back to September 2024 for the last time he claimed a title, he has been in the top ten in 13 of his last 14 LIV tournaments, and the exception was when he was 11th in Dallas in June.

His closing nine-under-par 63 was the best round of the week in Riyadh, and when you consider that it was his first competitive action for nearly four months, he should come on for the run.

He was six shots behind Niemann in Adelaide last year when he was sixth, but there could be more to come for the 2021 US Open champion, and this truly world-class performer can confirm his superiority over the field.

Ancer could go one better

While Niemann may feel he has plenty of work to do to make a bold bid for repeat success, last year’s runner-up Abraham Ancer may have found his form at just the right time.

The Mexican found himself playing catch-up in Saudi Arabia last week, but he will be pleased with going 13-under-par for the final two rounds to earn him a share of fourth spot and his best finish since he was third in Andalucia in July.

Last year’s tournament was a missed opportunity as he went into the final round as joint leader, only to open the door for Niemann with a disappointing 71, so he may feel he has unfinished business at The Grange.

Herbert can lead the home charge

A strong Australian challenge is anticipated in front of a home crowd this week, but while Smylie claimed the win in Riyadh, the one to look out for could be Lucas Herbert.

He got off to a miserable start in Saudi with a 75, but he grew into the tournament and will have received a massive confidence boost with closing rounds of 65 and 64.

The fact that his fellow countryman and Ripper teammate Smylie won should provide further encouragement, and as he went into that tournament having finished fifth at the Saudi International and 18th at the Australian Open, when he made another poor start, he could go well.
