T20 World Cup 2026: England name provisional squad; Harry Brook to lead

FebThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named men's squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka for a white-ball series, followed by the showpiece event of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Harry Brook will be the captain for all the squads, whereas Jos Buttler also headlines as one of the key names present in the roster.

The Three Lions' tour of the Asian land will commence on January 22 with three One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka — all of which will be played in Colombo. The two sides will then clash in a three-match T20I series, starting January 30 — all to be played at the Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy. The teams will then ready themselves for their respective campaigns in the T20 World Cup.

England, placed in Group C, will be starting their T20 World Cup campaign against Nepal on February 8 in Mumbai. They will the West Indies at the same venue three days later. Brook & Co. are then slated to travel to Kolkata to play their last two league stage games against Bangladesh (February 14) and Italy (February 16) at the Eden Gardens.

Brydon Carse will not be playing the 20-team event, as ace pacer Jofra Archer will then make a return to the squad. Other key names in England's squad include wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt, Tom Banton, and star all-rounder Sam Curran. Meanwhile, Josh Tongue, also named in Sri Lanka tour squad, sees his name in the T20I side for the first time.
