Syracuse’s Gerry McNamara scores major rebuild boost with 15.3 PPG transfer

Syracuse basketball pivoted to rebuild mode under new head coach Gerry McNamara. But he secured a huge College Basketball Transfer Portal win Monday in Temple’s Aiden Tobiason.

The now former Owls star announced his decision to join the Orange. He hands McNamara a 15.3 points per game scorer via the American Athletic Conference.

The 6-foot-5 guard leaves the Philadelphia university as a sophomore. Tobiason delivered multiple 20+ point games too with the Owls which should win over Orange fans.

He scored 21 against March Madness team Hofstra back on Nov. 19. The shooter then delivered 23 versus Florida Atlantic University on Jan. 18. He even dropped 22 in the 79-78 victory over South Florida on Jan. 31; the same Bulls team that went on to win the conference.

McNamara has become proactive in reshaping the roster at his alma mater.

His former Siena University star Gavin Doty joined Syracuse on Tuesday. Doty made himself into a brief household name by applying a scare to Duke; producing 21 points against the likes of Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer, Isaiah Evans and the East Regional’s top seed.

But adding Doty and Tobiason aren’t the only major offseason victories for the incoming leader of the Orange.

Kiyan Anthony made the decision to stay put and work with McNamara. The 6-foot-5 wing is best known as the son of NBA and school legend Carmelo Anthony.

McNamara still has a fanbase to re-galvanize. The past powerhouse has only delivered two 20-win seasons since 2018-19. Former head coach Adrian Autry parted ways after enduring a 15-17 campaign this past season. But the past sharpshooter for the Orange McNamara has hit the ground running in the portal.
