Sydney Sweeney teases stunning boxing fight as she gives shock insight into fighting background

Actress Sydney Sweeney has told talkSPORT.com she is interested in a future boxing fight.

Sweeney has completed it all in the acting world, playing starring roles across a range of high-achieving projects.

But none came as a tough as her latest high-profile role, stepping into the boxing world to play legend Christy Martin in an epic biopic about her turbulent life.

The 28-year-old wasn’t content with simply playing the role, she lived the life of a boxer and warrior, as if it were her own career.

During the movie, Sweeney engages in some epic fighting battles both during training and in competitive fights.

In one of the most epic battles, she duels with former Olympian Naomi Graham, as part of the recreation of Martin’s famous 2003 defeat to Laila Ali.

Sweeney had revealed she suffered injuries during the sessions, but that hasn’t turned her away from the sport.

And she enjoyed the rigours of the role so much that she would never rule out a future competitive bout.

In an interview with talkSPORT.com, she said: “There was moments during filming where I thought about it.

“I thought, ‘should I just try this out?’ Yeah look I’d definitely try out, maybe I could do it for charity or something.

“Everything you see during the film feels really authentic, like if a punch touched my face, it probably did hit me in the face.”

Obviously Sweeney had a haul of commitments in the acting world right now.

But should she choose to lace up her gloves, there would likely be a sea of commercial interest.

And she would likely have the advice of Martin in her corner, a true pioneer for female boxing who reigned as a world champion at the peak of her powers.

Sweeney looks surprisingly impressive on the pads and in the squared circle during her time in the spotlight while playing Martin.

She is seen on the film letting her hands go with crisp combinations and speed, which is an impressive development after just months of training.

But the acting superstar has let the cat out of the bag.

She has admitted that she has a background in fighting arts, having trained in kickboxing during her youth years.

Sweeney continued: “So I started kickboxing and grappling properly when I was 12.

“And I trained until I was 19. I loved it, it was one of my favourite times, going to the dojo.

“I used to have grappling classes then kickboxing three times a week, so it definitely mentally and physically helped me.

“Of course boxing is different like the stances and techniques etc but it helped.

“It was a big part of my training for sure, but of course I had to learn to fight more like Christy.”
