Suspended Phillies outfielder dealt brutal injury update

The Philadelphia Phillies are currently second in the NL East. They were playing this year without one of their outfielders. Johan Rojas had been suspended for 80-games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Now, it seems Rojas will not be joining the Phillies at all this year, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“Philadelphia Phillies OF Johan Rojas, who was suspended for PEDs and ineligible to play in the postseason, now won’t be back at all this year. He has a UCL tear and will be out until 2027,” Nightengale posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Rojas had been suspended in early March following a positive test for the PED Boldenone. He was projected to return at the end of June, but now will be focused on 2027.

Rojas got his first major league action in 2023, playing in 59 games for the Phillies. He hit .302 that year with two home runs, 23 RBIs, and 24 runs scored. The outfielder was also solid in 2024. He played in 120 games, hitting .243 with three home runs, 31 RBIs, and 47 runs scored. Still, he struggled in 2025. He hit just .224 with a .280 on-base percentage. Further, he had just one home run and 18 RBIs while scoring 23 times. He was then demoted to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs in August, finishing the season there.

Rojas had a chance to make the major league roster this past spring. He was hitting just .200 with an RBI before being suspended.

The Phillies are 36-31 on the season, placing them in second place in the NL East. They are currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the National League. The Phillies finish a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
