Stephen Curry responds to Darius Garland’s comments about him

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have finished up their 2025-26 regular season campaign, and will now look to keep their season alive against Darius Garland and the LA Clippers Wednesday night.

The Clippers edged out the Warriors during Sunday night’s regular season finale, winning 115-110. Curry finished the contest with a game-high 24 points in 29 minutes of play while Darius Garland recorded 15 points and six assists in 26 minutes of play.

After Sunday’s game, the Clippers guard was asked about what it would be like to face Stephen Curry in a winner-take-all, win-or-go-home situation like the upcoming play-in tournament. Safe to say Garland is excited.

“It’s pretty cool going against a top-75 guy like that, first ballot Hall of Famer,” Darius Garland said after the Clippers win. “It will be cool just to compete with a guy like that. The skill and the ability that he has, that affected me and the way that I play. It’s super cool to see that on the other end. It’s gonna be fun. Any time you play against top-75 guy like that or a first ballot Hall-of-Famer or someone that you’re inspired by or looked up to and watched when you’re growing up, it’s always super cool to go against him and go at him a little bit. I’m super excited about that, but my main goal is trying to win the game so that’s all that matters to me.”

When Stephen Curry was told about Garland’s comments, he took a second to smile and express how old he feels now that he’s in year 17 and player’s in the league are saying he was an inspiration to them growing up.

“It’s surreal that you’re this deep into your career and you have that influence,” Curry responded. “He was a guy when he first showed up in Cleveland that you knew was gonna be a problem in the league just because of his skillset, his composure, obviously his speed. He’s just a gamer. I know he’s been dealing with some injuries early in the year and over the course of his career. But when he’s out there he’s always a threat. It’s great to see him continue to grow, and even in a new setting continuing to figure it out.”

In 19 appearances since being traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers to the LA Clippers at the February trade deadline, Darius Garland averaged 19.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game for his new team on 47.1 percent shooting from the field and 43.8 percent from three.

Stephen Curry had his biggest scoring season since the 2022-23 season, averaging 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three.

The winner of Wednesday night’s game between the Clippers and Warriors will go on to face the loser of the Portland Trail Blazers/Phoenix Suns game on Tuesday night. The loser of Clippers-Warriors will have their season come to a swift end.
