Stephen Curry hilariously reacts to Yaxel Lendeborg hate

The Golden State Warriors came into Tuesday night’s NBA Draft with the 11th overall pick, and as most expected, selected Michigan forward Yaxel Landeborg. Stephen Curry’s name quickly came up after his selection, but not for the reason everyone expected.

When asked about joining forces with Curry on the Warriors, Landeborg had an answer that rubbed some Dubs fans the wrong way.

“It’s a full-circle moment for me,” Yaxel Landeborg said in his post-draft media availability. “I’ve been saying this every time I get asked this question, but in 2016, I’m a big Kyrie guy, so I used to hate Stephen Curry. So now that I’m actually going to be able to be on the same team as him and play, and actually learn so much from him, it means a lot. I met him a couple times, he’s a very great guy, a genuine person, and it’s going to be an honor to able to watch him do what he does in person. I’m very excited.”

That video quickly spread across social media, with Warriors fans wondering why Landeborg even admitted something like this. But for Stephen Curry, it was all in good fun.

The Warriors star took to Instagram after Landeborg was selected by the franchise to congratulate him. He also sent him an additional message after his post-draft comments.

“Let’s go!” Curry wrote. “Welcome to the Bay! I’m going to to work hard to be your new favorite player.”

In his senior season, Yaxel Landeborg helped the Michigan Wolverines to the NCAA Championship, averaging 15.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from three.
