Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama was a stone-cold statue during SGA’s MVP presentation

On Sunday evening, the San Antonio Spurs marched into Oklahoma City and defeated the Thunder in a double overtime thriller in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. To say that superstar Victor Wembanyama rose to the occasion in this one would be an understatement, as he finished with 41 points, 24 rebounds, and three blocks in the win.

Before the game, Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was honored with his second straight MVP award, and now, a new angle has captured Wembanyama’s reaction to the festivities.

Some fans felt that Wembanyama was snubbed of this award this year considering his dominance on both ends of the court. Wembanyama had already won the first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year award.

While the final stats were inflated by the fact that the game went into two overtimes, it was still a dominant display from Wembanyama in Game 1, altering virtually every shot that the Thunder took around the rim and making several huge plays on offense, including a mammoth three-pointer from near the logo to tie things up near the end of the first overtime period.

Meanwhile, SGA struggled in Game 1, shooting just 7-23 from the field, although he did knock down a clutch layup at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Spurs’ win ended the Thunder’s 8-0 streak to open up the playoffs, and the game as a whole more than lived up to the hype, with many projecting that this has the potential to be one of the most entertaining playoff matchups in recent NBA history.

The Spurs will look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series when Game 2 gets underway on Wednesday evening from Oklahoma City.
