Spurs’ Dylan Harper admits shock to Victor Wembanyama’s clutch 3 vs. Thunder

Victor Wembanyama delivered arguably his biggest performance yet in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Monday, carrying the San Antonio Spurs to victory in double overtime, 122-115, in front of a rowdy crowd at Paycom Center.

Wembanyama tallied huge numbers of 41 points, 24 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks, giving the Thunder their first loss in the playoffs. San Antonio has now beaten Oklahoma City five times in six meetings.

The 22-year-old Wembanyama was cold-blooded in the crunch time, scoring nine points in the second overtime. He sent the game into another extension with a gutsy three-pointer from near the half-court line, which left everyone absolutely stunned.

Even his teammates could not believe what they just saw. Just ask Dylan Harper, who had to suspend his disbelief.

“Confidence through the roof. I was stunned for a little bit, but once the ball went up, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s going in.’ It’s kind of just who he is. He’s one of a kind,” said Harper in the postgame conference.

The 20-year-old Harper also had a magnificent outing, collecting 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and seven steals. He also made timely baskets, as he stepped up admirably in place of De’Aaron Fox, who was still out with an ankle injury.

Many have lauded the twosome of Wembanyama and Harper in the playoffs, and they will need to sustain their production to give the Spurs a strong chance of dethroning the defending champions.

San Antonio is looking to make it to the NBA Finals for the first time since winning the title in 2014.
