Sky’s Gabriela Jaquez gets touching tribute from Heat wing brother Jamie

With the Chicago Sky being active in making trades this offseason, the team also made a splash in the WNBA Draft, selecting UCLA Bruins star Gabriela Jaquez. Though the Sky are surrounded by trading Angel Reese, the team is looking to build around Jaquez after drafting her, as the celebration continues for the UCLA guard, even garnering the attention of her brother, Jaime Jaquez Jr, of the Miami Heat.

The Miami forward is focused on willing his team to victory in a do-or-die game against the Charlotte Hornets in the play-in tournament on Tuesday night, but has been celebrating her sister of late. It started when Jaquez and UCLA won the national championship, which the brother attended, and shortly after, she started her WNBA journey after being selected by Chicago.

“She’s got the natty. She got drafted top five,” Jaquez said ahead of the Heat taking on the Hornets in the play-in tourney, according to The Miami Herald. “I mean, I can’t name another person who’s having a better week than her right now. “She’s on top of the world right now, and she deserves it. So I’m really happy for her.”

Jaquez has impressed with Miami in his third year, being one of the main contenders for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, but with the recent success from Gabriela, the Heat star was asked if she’s more accomplished at the moment.

“I mean, if that’s how you want to put it out, she’ll take it,” Jaquez said, reportedly with a smile.

Jaquez would say how he knows his family will be getting a bunch of Gabriela’s jerseys, with the hope he gets on in his size.

“I know my family is ordering a bunch,” he said. “Hopefully it’s not sold out. Maybe I can get one in my size.”

At any rate, both look to make a presence in each of their profession as the Sky hopes Jaquez can be a building block moving forward.
