Skip Bayless thinks Thunder found an ‘antidote’ for Victor Wembanyama in NBA Draft
The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently in the middle of their quest to slash a significant amount from their luxury tax bill, with their salary dump of Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks being the first domino to fall. Make no mistake about it, however, the Thunder have their sights set on winning another NBA championship, if their selection of Aday Mara with the 12th overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft is any indication.
Notable pundit Skip Bayless believes that the Thunder now have an “antidote” for Victor Wembanyama on the roster after picking up Mara, the 7’3″ big man out of Michigan, to try and match his size and length.
“Thunder just drafted an antidote for Wemby, a defender who can look him in the eye,” Bayless wrote on his official account on X.

The Thunder did struggle somewhat against Wembanyama during the 2026 Western Conference Finals, with Chet Holmgren being overmatched against the San Antonio Spurs star.
OKC had to deploy Isaiah Hartenstein to try and rough Wembanyama up somewhat, while Alex Caruso, someone who is giving up a foot to the Spurs star, also had to guard him for stretches.
Wembanyama put up 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks on 48/40/90 shooting splits, as there were stretches where he was simply unstoppable. But as the New York Knicks showed in the 2026 NBA Finals, Wembanyama is not without his weaknesses.
The Spurs star struggles against someone with a low center of gravity, and his handle is not nearly good enough to warrant him having touches on the perimeter. Mara could help at least make it difficult for Wembanyama in the paint, as he is entering the league as one of the best shot-blocking prospects in recent memory.
OKC knows that it will have to overcome San Antonio in future playoff runs if they were to win another title, and perhaps Mara could be that missing piece.
