Sickening CeeDee Lamb concussion leads to scary ‘posturing’ as Cowboys star gives update

Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb sustained a concussion during the Thursday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions.

The wide receiver suffered the injury in the third quarter, when he challenged for a pass in the end zone.

He jumped up to catch the ball from quarterback Dak Prescott, who made a bold pre-game prediction, as Lions cornerback Amik Robertson defended him.

Lamb fell hard on his head and shoulders, and gestured with his arms as he rolled over on the turf after the pass went incomplete.

He was tended to by Cowboys medical staff, who then escorted the NFL star to the medical tent.

Shortly after that Lamb, who is one of the highest-paid non quarterbacks in the league, went back to the locker room and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

According to Dr. Evan Jeffries, who markets himself as the ‘Game Injury Doc’ on social media, the Cowboys star showed an immediate sign of a sickening concussion when he was still on the field.

CeeDee Lamb ‘postures’ after suffering head injury vs Lions

Jeffries shared a slow motion video of the moment Lamb went down, and his involuntary actions afterwards.

“Ceedee Lamb went into ‘POSTURING’ after his head hit the ground,” the sports injury analyst wrote on X.

“This is the Immediate sign for a concussion.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, decorticate posturing is a reflex pose and a ‘symptom of damage to or disruptions in brain activity’.

It causes an individual’s legs to become rigid and straight, while their arms flex upward and ‘hold tensely’ to the chest.

talkSPORT reacts... Ceedee Lamb goes down, Cowboys season does too

CeeDee Lamb's concussion came at the worst time for the Dallas Cowboys.

I wrote last month that the Cowboys’ season would be over by Thanksgiving dinner. But, I’m happy to say they proved me wrong in recent weeks.

Wins against Raiders, Eagles and Chiefs kept their playoff dreams alive, and I really hoped they could pick up their fourth-straight win against the Lions.

But Lamb’s injury pretty much brings the curtain down on their season. The Cowboys now have a 6-6-1 record, and less than a 10% chance of making the playoffs.

Lamb now needs to pass the concussion protocol to get back on the field, but quite honestly, there isn’t any point in rushing him back now.

The pose is ‘usually a sign of brain damage, or disrupted brain activity’.

Posturing is also called the ‘fencing response’ due to the unnatural position of the arms following a concussion and is often observed during contact sports like American football.

Lamb’s injury is a major setback for the Cowboys, who lost Thursday’s game 44-30 in Detroit.

The wideout, who missed three games earlier in the year with a high ankle sprain, will now enter the concussion protocol.

His Week 15 status is up in the air, but Lamb did provide a positive update to one reporter.

CeeDee Lamb shares update after suffering concussion

Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter Nick Harris shared on X that he ‘caught Lamb coming out of the locker room after he exited with a concussion in the second half’.

“Asked if he was good, he gave me a head nod. Bright side for the Cowboys: He’ll have 10 days to clear the protocol,” Harris added.

Given Dallas played in TNF, Lamb will indeed have more time than usual to return. But if he is sidelined once again, Prescott will look to his other weapons to step up.

Who will the Cowboys look to in CeeDee Lamb’s absence?

When Lamb exited the game against Detroit, the Cowboys were trailing 27-9. At the time, he had six catches for 121 yards.

They scored a few plays later, when Javonte Williams’ touchdown run, cut the score to 27-16.

It then fell to George Pickens — who had made the Cowboys a dark horse Super Bowl contender heading into Week 14 — to pick up the slack.

But he caught just five of the nine passes thrown his way for 37 yards.

While he struggled, Ryan Flournoy had somewhat of a breakout performance to offer some hope.

The second-year wideout finished with career highs in receptions (9), receiving yards (115) and targets (13). He also caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

In Lamb’s absence, the Cowboys clearly have options. But with a 6-6-1 record heading into Week 15, and the status of their star receiver up in the air, it seems this season will fizzle out.
