World Cup betting tips

- Harry Kane World Cup top goalscorer @ 5/1
- England semi-final stage of elimination @ 5/1
England set to dominate group
England have landed in a fairly soft group at this year’s World Cup, alongside plenty of familiar foes. They were in the same group as Panama in 2018, beating them 6-1, and lost to Croatia in the semi-final of the same tournament.
Their fellow European side are an ageing force, with their midfield and attack particularly feeling the effects of the eight years since that meeting between the two.
Ghana come into this World Cup in horrendous form, having lost five of their six warm-up games, and they are a pale shadow of the side which reached the last eight in 2010.
Panama did well to qualify but look likely to be outclassed and England and Croatia should have the group between themselves.
Thomas Tuchel’s men have progressed beyond Croatia since that famous meeting and an England/Croatia straight forecast looks the way to go in Group L.
Kane to rack up the goals
No player has ever been the top scorer at a World Cup more than once but in Harry Kane, England have a very solid candidate. The Bayern Munich striker has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring 67 goals for club and country, and this is a team very much built around him.
Kane will be on penalty duties for England and in a soft group, which would lead to a fairly straightforward round of 32 game if they top it, the former Tottenham Hotspur man could rack up the score. Side with Kane to be the tournament’s top scorer.
Last-four heartache may await
England are once again well-fancied for this World Cup but there are a number of factors which could prevent them from lifting the trophy.
This Three Lions side mainly play in the Premier League and the rigorous physical demands of a long season in that league could be a negative, particularly in the sweltering conditions expected at this World Cup.
To add to that, their defence is not quite as strong as some of the other contenders and despite the quality in their squad they have had a habit of finding just one team too good in major tournaments.
Expect a deep run for the Three Lions but a potential semi-final clash with either Argentina or Portugal, who both have a history of knocking England out of major tournaments, could be their undoing.
