‘Shut up’ – Simon Jordan vents at Liverpool critics doubting Arne Slot in passionate rant
Simon Jordan has shut down the notion that Liverpool are in the midst of a crisis.
Arne Slot’s side were brushed aside 4-1 by Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday leaving the Reds 13th in the Champions League table.

That defeat followed Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, a result that saw the reigning Premier League champions slumped in 11th place in the league.
The loss to PSV was their ninth in 12 games, the club’s worst run since their relegation season of 1953/54.
Pressure is mounting on Slot who was handed a £450million war chest to bolster his squad in the summer.
However, the Reds appear to have taken backwards strides this season with disgruntled fans resorting to booing the team after the final whistle on Wednesday.
A calm head
Discussing Liverpool’s plight, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan added some perspective when asked whether the Slot’s side are in crisis.
“A crisis is when they had [Tom] Hicks and [George] Gillette in a situation where they were about to go bankrupt. Come on, it’s not a crisis it’s a challenge,” Jordan said.
“People are saying I want to hear anger from him (Slot). Oh shut up, you don’t need to see histrionics and hyperbole in a press conference.
“I need to see that manager concentrate those players’ minds so there’s a reaction on that field not a press conference where the manager bangs his hands on a table and says ‘I’m angry about this, let’s put it out there this morning.”
Despite Slot’s trouble Jordan doesn’t expect club chiefs to act impulsively on the future of the Dutch coach.
Summer spending spree could be Slot’s saviour
Slot was given the chance to reinvest in his title-winning squad during the summer and for that reason, Jordan believes he will be given time to turn things around.

“Spend is his friend isn’t it in terms of the amount of money he’s spent,” Jordan added.
“Because that will put the ownership into a position where A, they don’t want to fire Arne Slot, B, it won’t be on their radar yet to do it and C, given the fact that he has spent this enormous amount of money a lot of those players were bought because Arne Slot wanted them.
“Who wants to deploy £450m of players onto a manager who might not want them.
“Now you can turn around and say buying Isak and other players are buying for the future irrespective of the manager.
“But I’m willing to wage you the next manager coming in will have different views about certain players and a significant proportion of that money could be badly spent if they have to put a new manager in there.”
Asked if the huge sums splashed on lavish new signing should increase the scrutiny on Slot, Jordan said: “Well it will do from the media and it will do from sections of the fanbase.

“It won’t do from the ownership to some extent because the ownership spent the money with a free mind. No one dragged them kicking and screaming to spend the money.
“They spent it investing in the manager and the team and with the manager’s vision.
“So the idea that manager has to be taken out at the first sign of adversity will be something they push back against because it’s not the Liverpool way potentially and it creates an outcome where £450m could be badly spent.
“I think he gets more latitude in amongst these results.” Jordan continued.
“You look at it and say, among these results, you’ve beaten Real Madrid, you’ve spanked Eintracht Frankfurt, you’ve beaten a resurgent Aston Villa.
“People are going to make the case that because he’s lost these games and up comes West Ham and Sunderland, If they lose these two games there will be a real situation surrounding Arne Slot.
“I don’t think they’ll lose these two games. The games are a must win in the cycle of pressure but are they a must win in the boardroom where cooler heads prevail?”
