Shakur Stevenson confronts ‘ignorant’ Shannon Sharpe as pair argue over fight criticism

Shakur Stevenson and Shannon Sharpe went toe-to-toe in a furious argument during a live podcast.

Stevenson yesterday announced he had signed with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing in a major career move.

The American pound-for-pound superstar will now chase big fights against the likes of Devin Haney, after beating Teofimo Lopez in a blockbuster last time out.

As of recently, the Newark native has started getting more credit for his sublime fighting style, which ranks him as one of the most technically gifted operators right now.

Stevenson has received bizarre criticism suggesting that his style is ‘boring’, given he hasn’t got the most comprehensive KO record.

One of those leading the storm against Stevenson is NFL Hall of Fame former tight end Sharpe.

The pair came face-to-face on a recent episode of Sharpe’s Nightcap podcast, where he levelled the same opinion at Stevenson.

And it sparked a furious row between the pair, where the boxing sensation got personal and questioned his authority and knowledge of the sport.

Sharpe remarked: “Your style is boring. The most exciting fight was against Teo. You take an F for boxing entertainment.”

Of course his most recent outing was a career-best victory over Lopez in January, and it stirred a furious reaction from Stevenson.

Stevenson lashes out at Sharpe over criticism

The four-weight champion shouted: “You’re ignorant to boxing.

“That’s how I know you never boxed before. You don’t have a degree in boxing.

“Unc what I’m telling you is you’re being ignorant. I’m not talking about you as a person, just your boxing knowledge.

“If you speak on Lionel Messi about his footballing abilities and style, he’d say the same thing too.

“When you say the style is boring after I just fought William Zepeda, if you didn’t see it, then you didn’t do your homework.

“I’m not upset with your opinion, I’m just debating with you.”

The two big personalities then agreed to disagree, but Sharpe has suggested Stevenson needs to do more to become a superstar in the US.

But the southpaw technician is confident, like most, that he is already up there with the leading brass.

Further big fights are set to come along the way for Stevenson to prove himself as a modern-era great.

The likes of Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia could also be in line, in what would be two lucrative bouts.
