Serena Williams and Venus Williams to play doubles at Wimbledon
One of hte most successful pairings in tennis history is heading back to Wimbledon.
Serena Williams’ comeback to the tennis world is now taking her to a Grand Slam event, as she will pair with her sister Venus Williams after receiving a wild card entry. Wimbledon announced the wild cards on Tuesday, and the Williams sisters were one of seven pairings to receive a wild card entry in Ladies’ Doubles.
For Serena, this will be her first time back at Wimbledon in four years. She returned to competitive tennis at the Queen’s Club, where she was paired with 19-year-old Victoria Mboko. She is currently participating in the Berlin Tennis Open, where she is paired with Karolína Muchová. The duo is set to take the court in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
As for Venus, she returned to competitive tennis at last year’s D.C. Open in Washington, D.C., following her own time away from the court.
The sisters are one of the more successful pairings in Wimbledon history, as they won the Ladies’ Doubles title six times together. Two of those titles — 2000 and 2002 — came as wild card entrants.
They last won Wimbledon together in 2016.
