Seahawks rumors: Will new owners look to build new stadium outside Seattle? Insiders weigh in

The Seattle Seahawks are one of the most successful franchises in the NFL right now. Seattle is of course coming off a Super Bowl championship in 2025. The team though is in the midst of looking for new ownership, and there are also questions about what happens to the team’s current stadium.

A new report from The Seattle Times argues the team is likely to stay in Seattle for a long time.

“There’s little risk of the Hawks leaving town, mainly because there simply isn’t a better market without an NFL franchise,” the outlet reported. “And while a buyer might want to replace Lumen (Field) — which, among other things, has below-average ticket revenue — the odds of that happening soon are modest.”

Lumen Field, the home of the Seahawks, is also home to the Seattle Reign and Seattle Sounders soccer teams. The field is reportedly still in excellent condition.

“The building is damn-near brand new, except for its concrete,” said Fred Mendoza, longtime chair of the stadium authority.

The new owners of the Seahawks may however look to build a new stadium. When it comes to revenues, Lumen Field isn’t exactly drawing in big numbers. The outlet reports in 2024 the stadium netted $109 million in ticket sale revenues, after taxes and fees.

“That’s around 2% below the league average, and as much as 35% less than newer venues like Levi’s Stadium near San Francisco and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, according to CNBC,” the outlet reported.

New stadiums are clearly attractive in the NFL. That may cause new ownership to look at a new facility.

“It will not be lost on a new Seahawks owner that the Tennessee Titans’ $2 billion, soon-to-open enclosed stadium in Nashville was a big reason they were just selected to host the 2030 Super Bowl,” the outlet said.

Seahawks fans certainly don’t want to see the team move anytime soon.
