Sabres’ Zach Benson gets hilarious birthday gift after Game 4 goal vs. Canadiens

The Buffalo Sabres came away with a much-needed win in Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens. Buffalo goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen drew into the game after Alex Lyon struggled early in the series. Luukkonen was the star of the show, but youngster Zach Benson made an impact, and on his birthday to boot.

Benson scored the game-winning goal on Tuesday night. He backhanded a shot into the net through traffic to give Buffalo a 3-2 win. On the night that he celebrated his 21st birthday, the Sabres social media admin elected to give him quite the hilarious birthday present.

This drew some equally hilarious reactions on social media. Fans openly questioned the validity of this being the first adult beverage Benson will have consumed in his life. “I imagine he is very excited to drink the very first beer he has ever drunk in his life tonight,” one fan joked on social media.

Benson has come up clutch for the Sabres at various points this postseason. The Buffalo winger has four goals and seven points across 10 games this postseason. He has been impressive during his first taste of playoff hockey in his career.

The Sabres bounced back from two subpar performances as a team. Buffalo lost Game 2 of this series by a score of 5-1 on home ice. In Game 3, they went to Montreal and lost 6-2 after a disastrous second period.

Benson and his teammates will celebrate both a win and his birthday. However, they know their work is not done yet. Game 5 of this series will take place at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Thursday night.
