Rockies shatter franchise record after lighting up A’s in Las Vegas
While things haven’t gone well for the Colorado Rockies in 2026, Sunday’s matchup against the Athletics told a different story. Willi Castro and company mashed their way to a 23-9 victory.
Plenty of runs have crossed the plate in Rockies franchise history. But their 23 runs scored was three more than their highest total in any game in that span, via Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

The Rockies found themselves trailing 4-2 after the first inning. However, that wouldn’t last long. Colorado scored three in the second and fourth inning before going on a six-run onslaught in the fifth inning. The Rockies went on to drop four runs in the seventh and another five in the eighth to secure the franchise history.
Leading the way was leadoff hitter Willi Castro, who went 4-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Four different players left the yard for Colorado, including catcher Hunter Goodman who hit two. Eight different players drove in runs with Castro, Goodman and Troy Johnston all having at least four.
Perhaps the most impressive fact about the Rockies’ outbreak is that their performance didn’t come at Coors Field. It’s clear though the hitting confines set them up for this moment. Opposing pitchers will need to take the Rockies a bit more seriously knowing what the ceiling of their offense could be.
After the 23-run outburst, Colorado is now tied for 11th with 329 runs scored. Unfortunately for the franchise, their Sunday win moved them to just 27-45 on the season. Still, they’ll hope their new franchise record helps sparks the lineup even further moving forward.
