Rising UFC star calls himself ‘idiot’ for being ‘super obsessed’ with Conor McGregor
Recently after earning his new UFC contract on DWCS, the 24-year-old Bilal Hasan has opened up about his obsession with Conor McGregor while growing up. Often regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, McGregor is also extremely controversial for his trash-talking and a few other charges. Despite his controversial nature, McGregor is also known for spreading and popularizing UFC in several parts of the world.
After a successful UFC debut, the undefeated Indonesian fighter appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show. During the interview, “The IndoNinja” revealed that growing up, when he was 17-18 years old, he was a fan of “The Notorious One.”
Hasan mentioned his extreme fascination with McGregor’s abilities on the microphone, his distinctive fighting style, and his performances in the octagon. He also informed Helwani that his obsession with McGregor led to him fighting his schoolmates.
“Right when I turned 17 or 18, I was a huge casual fan. I just watched Conor McGregor, and I got super obsessed with how he was able to speak on the mic and how he could be super aesthetic with his performances. I love his footwork and I felt like that was something I could replicate coming from a martial arts background,” Hasan shared.
“I got super obsessed with watching him, and I just started fighting a bunch of people in my garage. I’d challenge a bunch of people that I had beef with in high school… They’re [his parents] still so mad at me to this day, and I don’t blame them. I was an idiot, but it was just boys being boys.”
Hasan fought and won over Nilson Rojas on Aug. 29, 2026, at UFC Fight Night: Nurmagomedov vs. Song in Shanghai, China.
