Red Sox rumors: Ken Rosenthal declares Craig Breslow next on chopping block in John Henry’s ‘incoherent’ regime

The Boston Red Sox decided to clean house over the weekend, firing manager Alex Cora and five other members of his coaching staff. Though the Red Sox are at the bottom of the division, it was still a surprise to many that they made this move so early in the season. Nonetheless, it seemed as if the organization felt there was still time for them to get back on track.

Everyone is now wondering whose idea it was to make this decision, and according to Sam Kennedy, it was all Craig Breslow. Unfortunately for him, he could be the next one out the door for the Red Sox, as reported by Ken Rosenthal.

“Even with the offensive questions, Cora maintained the Sox would be competitive as long as their pitchers performed to expectations,” Rosenthal wrote. “They haven’t, at least to this point. It sure will be interesting Sunday to hear Breslow explain why that he left that part of the coaching staff largely untouched.

“But enough about Breslow, who in the end is just another Henry pawn, positioned to take the next fall. Under Henry, the Red Sox are incoherent, dysfunctional and forever poised to overreact. Yet, why should the owner operate any differently? The turnstiles at Fenway keep spinning. ‘Sweet Caroline’ keeps playing.”

In the end, it seems like this is a much bigger problem than just Breslow, but it goes all the up to the owner. For years, they haven’t been able to put the right pieces in place to compete, and the coaches are always the first to receive criticism.

For the Red Sox, it looks like the top of management may need to take some accountability.
