Red Sox legends Yastrzemski, Fisk make rare Fenway appearance as team celebrates 125th anniversary
The Boston Red Sox may be languishing at the bottom of the American League East this season, but that doesn’t mean that the team can’t celebrate its past accomplishments. As the team celebrates its 125th anniversary, the Red Sox brought back many of its living legends to mark the occasion.

Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski and former Boston catcher Carlton Fisk were the biggest names on hand. Yastrzemski was the captain of the team and a former Triple Crown winner who led the Red Sox to American League pennants in 1967 and 1975. Fisk hit one of the most famous home runs in World Series history when his 12th inning blast in Game 6 of the ’75 series allowed the team to win the game and force a seventh game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Yastrzemski and Fisk have not made many appearances at Fenway Park since their retirement years ago, but they have shown up with a bit more frequency in recent seasons.
The other Red Sox legends in attendance included David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, Jim Rice and Wade Boggs. All six of the living legends threw ceremonial first pitches to current members of the Red Sox team.
The 2026 Red Sox have a 16-22 record and are already 10 games behind the first-place New York Yankees. They recently swept a three-game series on the road against the Detroit Tigers, but they lost the opener of a four-game series against the streaking Tampa Bay Rays Thursday night. The Red Sox sent left-handed pitcher Connelly Early to the mound in Friday night’s game against the Rays.
