Real Madrid vs Elche predictions and betting tips – Blancos can put pressure on Barcelona

Real Madrid play before Barcelona this weekend, giving them the chance to close the gap to their arch-rivals. With four points between them at present, Madrid can ill-afford many more slip-ups this season.

Elche are the visitors to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Can they get something from their trip to the capital?

Real Madrid vs Elche predictions

There is nothing like a resounding Champions League victory to get your season back on track.

Just ask Real Madrid. Alvaro Arbeloa’s men have lost ground in the La Liga title race of late, falling four points behind Barcelona in top spot.

Hit by an untimely injury crisis, Madrid were underdogs even for the home leg of their European last-16 tie against Manchester City.

Yet when the time came to stand up and be counted, Madrid were ready and waiting. A 3-0 victory over City on Wednesday means they are well on course to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

It was a hugely impressive display from the Blancos, who were without a host of key players including Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Eder Militao and David Alaba.

City arrived at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu full of confidence having won seven of their last eight fixtures in all competitions, and gone 11 games unbeaten. Yet they were no match for Madrid on the night.

Federico Valverde was the star of the show. The Uruguay international notched a first-half hat-trick, a feat which means he will remember the night forever.

But others contributed to the handsome victory too, and Arbeloa was impressed by the collective performance as much as anything.

“We stuck to our plan, played as a team, and gave everything we had on the pitch,” he said afterwards. “Our players are very talented, but Madrid’s strength lies in our unity. A win is good, but here, only titles matter.”

Many Madrid fans will already be looking ahead to the second leg on Tuesday, but Arbeloa and his players must not fall into the same trap. Before they face City again, the Blancos take on Elche in an important La Liga encounter.

This is an opportunity for Madrid to put pressure on Barcelona, who are not in action until Sevilla visit the Camp Nou on Sunday.

A victory over Elche would see Arbeloa’s team move within a point of top spot, at least temporarily. It would then be up to Barcelona to respond.

Given their opponents are currently battling against relegation to the Segunda Division, this is the sort of opportunity that Madrid cannot afford to pass up.

After the immense highs of Wednesday’s defeat of Manchester City, it is back to the bread-and-butter issues for Madrid this weekend.

Real Madrid vs Elche betting tips

Real Madrid host Elche as they aim to close the gap to Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

Madrid to triumph

Real Madrid must not take anything for granted on Saturday.

Sure, they are obvious favourites to get the better of Elche, who are just a point clear of the drop zone going into matchday 28.

But the Blancos recently lost back-to-back games to Osasuna and Getafe, so this is by no means a foregone conclusion.

Elche will sit deep and look to make life difficult for Madrid. Eventually, the home team’s quality should shine through.

However, we are unconvinced that this will be a thrashing. A two-goal victory is, in our eyes, the most probable outcome.

Goals at either end

Elche will arrive at the Bernabeu on a 10-match winless streak. They are still waiting for their first victory of 2026.

It is unlikely to come at the home of Real Madrid, yet it is worth backing Elche to deny their opponents a clean sheet.

For one, Madrid are still short of options at the back. And they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last four league outings.

Secondly, Elche’s record going forward is actually pretty good for a team that sits 17th in the division. With goals to their name, Elche are the joint eighth-highest scorers in La Liga.

Vinicius to find net

Mbappe is not fit enough to start on Saturday and it would be a surprise to even see him in the matchday squad.

It is much more likely that Mbappe will be given the weekend off before being assessed ahead of the trip to Manchester next week.

Vinicius Junior will therefore be the main man in the Real Madrid attack once again, with support provided by the likes of Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler.

Vinicius missed a penalty against Manchester City last time out, but he has been in good form of late with six goals in his last eight games.

The Brazil international can find the back of the net once again this weekend.
