Real Madrid consider selling Manchester United target to fund spree for £120million-rated Premier League star

Jose Mourinho is now driving Real Madrid’s pursuit of Enzo Fernandez – but the club need to work out if need to sell to fund a deal.

That is the latest from talkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, who revealed Chelsea are open to a sale, but value the Argentine at £120million.

Fernandez won’t come cheaply for the Spanish giants

Fernandez, who served a two-game club ban after publicly fuelling talk of a switch to Spain, is keen on a move to the Bernabeu – potentially following ex-teammate Marc Cucurella to the club following his £51.8m switch.

talkSPORT understands he would welcome a bid from Madrid, with whom his agent, Javier Pastore, has been in contact.

Latest on Fernandez to Real Madrid

talkSPORT transfer expert Jacobs told The Window: “No movement yet, but Real are set to make an approach to Chelsea.

“It’s not true, to my understanding, that Fernandez has already got a five-year deal in place with Real Madrid.

“But what I can tell you is that Fernandez wants that move, and personal terms will not be a problem. Jose Mourinho is now driving it.

“Real have to work out two things. One, can they afford Enzo Fernandez? Chelsea value him at £120m.

“And number two, are they going to need an outgoing to fund a deal of that magnitude.

There’s been talk of [Eduardo] Camavinga, the player wants to stay. [Aurelien] Tchouameni, of course, is linked with Manchester United as well.”

Jacobs previously revealed that Tchouameni is one of the names on Man United’s radar and has been valued in excess of £70m.

Michael Carrick’s side are already closing in on a deal to sign Brazil’s World Cup star Ederson, with a £38.8m move expected imminently.

The Red Devils are in the market for further midfield reinforcements, especially in light of Manuel Ugarte’s serious injury on Uruguay duty.

United, who have already lost out on Elliot Anderson to Man City, are now in a race with Tottenham to sign West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.

Jacobs added: “United are still in talks with the player at the time of recording [Saturday], and West Ham United and Tottenham are there as well now.

“We’ve heard some suggestions in the last 24/48 hours that it’s a done deal with Spurs. We’re not there yet. Tottenham have been in advanced talks with the player.

“Manchester United’s talks with the player predate Tottenham entering the race, and again, it could change very quickly.

“But at the time I’m recording this, Fernandes has not made a decision on which club he wants to join, and there could be others to enter the race as well.

“Remember, Arsenal were there a little bit earlier in the summer before the window opened. PSG and Real Madrid also hold appreciation too.

“But Manchester United are still in formal talks with West Ham, and what I sense here is that both Man United and Spurs are waiting to see if they can get that communication from the player that he only wants to join a particular club.

“Then you’re in a stronger position to negotiate with West Ham United now, even though West Ham have gone down.

“They’ve got a cash injection of £90m, and as a consequence, there is not as big an urgency anymore to try and bring in that £150m through sales alone.

“Jarrod Bowen linked with Aston Villa, Crysencio Summerville…Manchester United and Tottenham have him on their radar, too and of course Fernandes.

“It was thought maybe three or four weeks ago that West Ham United would need a bit of a fire sale, but now they are in a stronger financial position, and that is going to allow them to dig in on this £80m-£85m asking price.”
