Keys to Raptors vs. Cavs Matchup

The Cavaliers come into their fourth-straight NBA Playoffs with a strong postseason history against this Toronto Raptors squad. However, it’s been the Raptors with a perfect 3-0 record over Cleveland this regular season, losing each game by double-digit margins. The two sides haven’t faced off since November 2025 and given the betting spread in favor of the Cavaliers, it’s clear oddsmakers are siding with Cleveland’s dominant performances at home this season.

Seeing Immanuel Quickley on the injury report is a tough sign for Toronto as they can certainly use his tight perimeter defense against Cavs’ James Harden. The Raptors pride themselves on defense and while the Cavaliers rank ninth-overall in net rating in the NBA, the Raptors actually rank as the fifth-overall defensively rated team in the league. The Cavaliers also sport the league’s sixth-most effective offense, so this series could be a tug-of-war between two of the postseason’s better teams on both ends of the floor.

Still, Cleveland will have the two best players on the floor in Donovan Mitchell (24.0 PPG vs. TOR) and Evan Mobley (16.7 PPG vs. TOR) as they’ve been carrying their teams with dominant efforts all season. Watch for Mitchell and Harden to lead the scoring charge early while they establish the post game through Evan Mobley and allow him to settle into his defensive sets. It’s also worth noting all three of Toronto’s wins against Cleveland came prior to the James Harden trade, so they’ll certainly be in for a different look come Saturday when he’s running things from the guard spot.

Raptors’ Brandon Ingram has been particularly effective against the Cavs this season, averaging 22.7 PPG in three starts but notching a game-high 37 points in the last win. Both him and Scottie Barnes are capable of creating their own looks in the mid-range while turning defense into offensive with their transition scoring. Few teams have matched up defensively against the Cavs this season, but Toronto is more than capable of doing so if they remain disciplined.

Raptors vs. Cavs Game 1 Prediction and Pick

This game should be a bit closer than people expect and while we’re still siding with the Cavaliers to win this series, the Raptors are a sneaky team fueled by their lockdown defense, which goes a long way during postseason basketball.

The Cavs should have the offensive advantage coming into a home playoffs opener with a ton of energy. They’ve been a streaky shooting team all season and they’re even more effective on their home floor, so expect the Cavaliers to come out strong in the opening half of this game.

While the Cavs should be able to win this game at home, the Raptors have been solid against the spread this season and should keep this game close with their defensive efforts in the fourth quarter. Cleveland leads 1-0 after Game 1 while the Raptors cover.

Final Raptors-Cavs Game 1 Prediction & Pick: Toronto Raptors +8.5 (-115); OVER 219.5 (-112)
