Rap legend doesn’t believe Anthony Davis is long for Wizards

The Washington Wizards are tied with the Brooklyn Nets and the Indiana Pacers for the best odds to win the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft lottery. They all have a 14% chance to get the top prize in this year’s loaded draft class.

The Wizards, who had the league-worst record at 17-65, do not want a repeat of last year’s draft lottery, wherein they also had a 14% chance to win the No. 1 pick, but the ping pong ball went to the Dallas Mavericks, who only had a 1.8% chance.

On “7 PM in Brooklyn,” popular rapper Wale, who grew up in Washington, talked about the Wizards’ options if they get the first pick in the NBA Draft in June. He said the team should get BYU forward AJ Dybantsa.

“No ifs, ands, or buts. Respect to shorty, but I’m scared of (Darryn) Peterson. I’m sure there was an issue. There was something, but I just don’t know, man. We’ve been through enough in DC. It’s AJ or bust,” said Wale.

There have been concerns about Peterson’s health, as he dealt with multiple injuries during his one year with the Jayhawks.

When it was mentioned that Dybantsa could “fit in perfectly” with Anthony Davis and Trae Young, Wale immediately pumped the brakes.

“AD is not gonna suit up. I know Rich Paul,” said the award-winning artist, referring to Davis’ agent. “AD ain’t suiting up for no Wizards.”

Davis has yet to suit up for the Wizards since being traded to the team in February. He only played 20 games last season due to various injuries.

The oft-injured star has been non-committal about staying long-term in Washington, although he implied that “adding certain pieces” could change his mind.

The Wizards could parade a starting five of Davis, Young, Dybantsa, Alex Sarr, and Kyshawn George next season.
