Paris Saint-Germain’s players are presumably still trying to catch their breath after the events of Tuesday night at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique’s side were involved in one of the most remarkable Champions League matches of all time in midweek, as they beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in the first leg of that star-studded semi-final.

It was a brilliant night of football in the French capital, and PSG’s success means they are now narrow favourites to advance to the final.

However, a one-goal aggregate lead is not sufficient to make the defending champions comfortable ahead of their trip to the Allianz Arena.

Whereas Bayern have already wrapped up the Bundesliga title, PSG have work to do in Ligue 1.

They are in pole position to claim the prize ahead of Lens, but a six-point lead with four games remaining – one of which pits the top two against each other – means the job is not done yet.

Luis Enrique is likely to rest one or two players ahead of the trip to Bavaria, but making 11 changes would be risky with Lens not too far behind.

Lorient have a decent record against PSG over the last few years, so this will not necessarily be the walkover that many anticipate.

Lorient are ninth in the 18-team division. Long safe from the threat of relegation, they have fallen away in the race for Europe in recent weeks, leaving them with little to play for.

That is good news for PSG, who would probably rather face a mid-table side than one which is scrapping for its life at the wrong end of the division.

PSG host Lorient as Luis Enrique’s side aim to take another step towards the Ligue 1 title.

PSG set to dominate

PSG play a few hours before Lens this weekend, so a win here would see them move nine points clear at the summit of the standings. 

That would in turn pile the pressure on their title rivals, who could end the weekend with their hopes hanging by a thread.

Unfortunately for Lens, they are unlikely to be helped out by Lorient. Les Merlus have failed to win eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and they have not won an away game since January 24.

PSG will aim to make a fast start. If they can score the first goal in the opening period, it would be a long way back for Lorient.

No clean sheet for PSG

It is not too difficult to envisage a scenario in which PSG take their foot off the gas after establishing a healthy lead.

In an ideal world for Luis Enrique, his team would have the points in the bag by the hour mark, allowing him to rest some of his key men for Wednesday evening.

In that scenario, Lorient could have some joy in the closing stages, albeit not enough to threaten a comeback.

Bear in mind, too, that PSG have kept a clean sheet in only one of their last five home games against French opposition.

Barcola to bag?

With Goncalo Ramos suspended, Luis Enrique may be forced to field Ousmane Dembele up front, even though he would surely prefer to rest him for the Bayern Munich rematch.

Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the two men who started out wide on Tuesday, look set to be rested, with Bradley Barcola in line for a place in the XI.

Barcola is a handy deputy to have available. Despite not being a guaranteed starter, the 23-year-old has chipped in with 12 goals in 2025/26. 

Barcola can find the back of the net when Lorient head to the Parc des Princes.
